Who we are

EvoGuess (evoguess.com) is a game about how animals are related, run by an independent developer based in Denmark. For anything privacy-related, contact privacy@evoguess.com.

What we collect

You play without creating an account — there is no sign-up, no email, and no password. The first time you finish a round, your browser is given an anonymous player id: a random code that carries no name or contact details and is never linked to your identity. Its purpose is to remember your own results between visits, so the game can show you your stats — rounds played, how often you placed the animals right, perfect rankings, and your best streak.

For each finished round we store the difficulty tier, the target animal, the four animals shown and their true order, the order you placed them in, how hard the round was, and when you played. Nothing about you or your device goes into that record, and only you can read your own rounds back.

Visitor statistics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views, so we can see roughly how much the game is played. It sets no cookies and does not follow you to other websites. For each page view Vercel records the page, the referring site, and your approximate country, operating system, browser and device type. It also derives a one-way hash from your IP address and browser, rotated daily, purely so a single visit isn't counted twice — the hash cannot be turned back into your IP, and it cannot link your visits across days.

We do not use advertising trackers, we do not build profiles, and we never sell data.

We do not store your IP address alongside your game results. Two unavoidable exceptions, both standard infrastructure logging: our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs, and when your browser is given its anonymous player id our database provider records that sign-in — including the IP address it came from — in a security audit log.

Why we collect it

We use this data only to run the game: to show you your own stats and streaks (the service you came for), and — in aggregate — to see which animals and categories are too hard or too easy and roughly how much the game is played, so we can improve it (our legitimate interest). We never sell data or use it for advertising.

Cookies and local storage

We set no cookies at all, which is why there is no cookie banner. The game does keep a few strictly necessary items in your browser's local storage: your anonymous player id, your chosen language, which of today's games you have finished, and your progress through a game in case you reload mid-round. All of it stays on your device and none of it is used for tracking. You can clear your browser's storage for this site at any time to disconnect from your past plays and start fresh.

Who processes it

Your data is stored and processed by these service providers on our behalf, under their GDPR data-processing agreements:

• Supabase — database and anonymous authentication (your player id and round results), hosted in the EU (AWS Frankfurt, eu-central-1)
• Vercel — website hosting and the visitor statistics described above
• esm.sh — a content-delivery network that serves the database library the game runs on
• Forward Email — forwards mail sent to our @evoguess.com addresses, so it handles anything you write to us

Where these providers process data outside the EU, transfers are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Because these records are anonymous and not tied to your identity, we keep them to measure and improve the game. You can clear your browser storage at any time to sever the link to your past plays. If you believe we hold data relating to you and want it removed, contact us and we will help where we can.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, receive a copy of, or delete personal data we hold about you. Note that because the data we keep is anonymous and carries no identifier that ties it to you, we usually cannot single out an individual's records on request (GDPR Art. 11) — but if you can help us identify relevant data, email privacy@evoguess.com and we will act on it within 30 days.

You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.dk).

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update this page and the date at the top.
